Steven Shafer, MD joined NDA Partners in 2018. He is a highly-regarded anesthesiologist and clinical pharmacology expert with a focus on intravenous anesthetic drugs.
Dr. Shafer is Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University; Co-Director of the Stanford Laboratory for Drug, Device, Development and Regulatory Science; and Adjunct Associate Professor of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, University of California at San Francisco.
Dr. Shafer is a former member and chair of the Anesthetic and Life Support Drug Advisory Committee (FDA) and served as a Special Government Employee on ad hoc FDA advisory committees. He is a former Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Shafer was formerly Vice President of Product Development at Pharsight Corporation, was co-founder of Signature Therapeutics, and is the former Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia, the oldest journal in perioperative medicine.
Dr. Shafer’s research focuses on PK/PD models, statistical review, identifying unmet medical needs, designing research programs for drug approval, drug and device regulatory strategy, and litigation.
